Dear Parents:

It is a pleasure to invite you to our Independence Day Celebration. The celebration will take place this coming Friday, September 10th from 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. As part of the educational activities we will be serving typical Honduran food at the end of the program. As in the past, we are asking for your contribution of Lps. 100 (per family and cash only). Please give it to your child’s homeroom teacher by Monday, September 6th. Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to a fabulous new school year at Discovery School! We will be having so much fun in our class, while learning from each other everyday. It is exciting to be teaching your children. I cannot wait to begin teaching and hearing your children’s ideas. My name is Gloria Palacios and this is my sixteenth year teaching and I am starting my seventh year teaching at Discovery School. I have a Masters Degree in Multidisciplinary Studies from the State University of New York and an Expert Degree in Educational and Family Counseling from Colegio Villanueva in Madrid, Spain. I am going to be teaching Science for the sixth and seventh grade. I look forward to meeting you at the OPEN HOUSE next Thursday, August 19th at 6:00 p.m. I am positive this year will be a great learning experience for everyone.

MAKE UP WORK

** It is the responsibility of the student to obtain all make up assignments from the teacher and to see that the completed work is submitted within the allotted number of days.

  • If a student is absent for 1 or 2 days, he/she MUST bring an excuse from home in order to be able to make up the missing work
  • If a student is absent for 3 or more days, he/she MUST bring an excuse from the doctor in order to be able to make up the missing work
  • If the student brings an appropriate excuse, he/she will have 1 day per day missed to make up his/her work
  • If the student fails to present his/her work when it is due, he/she will receive no points for the work
  • If the absence is due to a pre planned activity, work that is due on the day of departure should be turned in prior leaving

COMMUNICATION

Every Monday, my blog will be ready for parents and students. In my blog, you will find topics being covered, special activities, dates for quizzes and projects, homework, etc. Do not forget to check it on a weekly basis to keep updated on the latest news.

HOMEWORK

Students will receive reading assignments almost everyday; as well as questions to answer. All homework will be posted on the blog.

ASSESSMENT AND GRADING

Students will be monitored using a variety of informal and formal assessments. We will be encouraging all students to practice self-evaluation as well. All assessment is on going. Students will also be assessed at the end of every chapter. All dates will be posted on the blog.
